Our Story
The Journey to Unfold the Bruce/Johnson Family Tree
It all started for me in 2008 with a simple question: Who the heck are my ancestors, and where exactly did we come from? That curiosity has since grown into a sprawling family tree, with branches reaching across generations and continents.
My focus was originally on my mother’s side—the Johnsons. I began determined to piece together the fragments of our family’s history. It felt like discovering hidden treasures in an attic—each find revealing something new and precious. But, as with any good story, one chapter led to another, and soon I found myself delving into my father’s side—the Bruces. That journey uncovered tales that filled my heart with both pride and wonder.
The experience has been nothing short of exhilarating, and it feels like we’re just getting started. The Johnson side recently took me to Cuero, Texas, where the discovery of Eugene and Katie Daule gave me an even deeper sense of pride. Eugene Daule started the first Black school in Cuero. There are even more Texas connections through Prairie View University, where extended family members attended.
More on all this later. For now, just keep coming back to this page for little tidbits about the Bruce/Johnson tree—and feel free to comment to keep us going. But this isn’t just my journey; it’s our journey. I’m excited to share that we’re not stopping here. We’ll keep exploring, digging deeper, and celebrating the lives of our ancestors in ways that will resonate for generations to come.
